The Tablerock Repertory Theatre at Salado ("The Rep") has a four-fold mission:
- To produce professional theatre of the highest artistic standards for The Village of Salado and surrounding region;
- To perform and to promote the works of multi-award winning playwright Horton Foote and other notable American writers;
- To use those productions to provide innovative arts in education programs; and
- To develop new plays that speak clearly to family audiences in a changing world.
The actors in the company are a mixture of members of Actors’ Equity Association, seasoned performers from around the state, and top students from surrounding colleges and universities. The Rep conducts national searches for theatre professionals. Auditions will be held annually in the Dallas and Austin areas, at the Goodnight Amphitheatre, or at Baylor University in Waco. In addition to the staff directors, Tablerock Repertory Theatre will employ an occasional guest director.

For two weeks each year in the summer, under the leadership of Texas Dramatists, a select community of writers, actors, directors, dramaturgs, and other media professionals will gather in historic Salado to develop new works for the stage and screen. Selected projects will be given a series of rehearsals and readings, creating a process that affords the writer the rare opportunity to explore ideas without fear of failure. One or more scripts may be considered by Tablerock Repertory Theatre to be included and fully mounted in its season of plays. The Rep’s commitment to developing and producing new plays will distinguish the company from other small professional theatres in the region. Texas Dramatists welcomes all submissions.
Highly individualized internships provide school-to-work transition experiences for high-school seniors, university undergraduates, and graduate students from across the state. Opportunities will be available for actors, stage technicians, stage managers, costume managers, carpenters and scenic painters, properties manager, electricians, and assistant directors. For more information, please request an internship form at the above address (Dr. David Crawford at Tyler Junior College). Our aim is to give interns a truly satisfying artistic experience while at the same time asking for a fairly aggressive commitment in terms of time, work, and energy. Interns will receive free housing for their work.
Comfortable housing will be provided for actors and directors at the newly renovated Tablerock Lodge. The lodge sleeps eleven people and provides a fully equipped kitchen and sitting room. The Lodge is within walking distance of the theatre. In future years, interns will be housed in a newly constructed loft space.
